Swedish, Relaxation or Deep Tissue
Swedish massage is a style of bodywork that includes long gliding strokes, lifting and wringing strokes, deeper small movements to address tight muscles and tendons, brisk percussive strokes, and very light energetic strokes. A written medical history form is completed prior to the first massage to evaluate whether there are precautions to be taken during the session. Typically the receiver is disrobed and is always covered by a top-draping sheet except for the area to be worked. A lubricant (lotion) is used to enable the massage therapist’s hands to glide over the body. When the session is over, the massage therapist is available to answer questions and may have post-massage suggestions and/or recommendations..
Relaxation massage focuses on allowing the client to attain a deeply relaxed and peaceful state of mind, body and spirit. It may include any or all of the strokes used in Swedish massage, but typically with only light to moderate pressure. As with all sessions at ZENITH massage, relaxation massage is enhanced with soft music, soft lighting, minimal talking (at the client’s direction) and an ambiance that is designed to allow the stress of everyday life to melt away.
Deep Tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The massage therapist uses slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. Deep tissue massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. People may feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage.
